Matt's R/C Planes

Matt's R/C Planes

This was my very first RC plane. It was a cheap electric geared 280 cessna plane. It was too sensitive and it never flew well.

This was a 2meter sailplane that I built during winter quarter. It weighed a metric ton and flew like it. I typically launched it off the side of a large dam.

After not having much sucess with my first plane I went out and bought a .40 glow trainer. It is a HobbyTown USA trainer with a Thunder Tiger .42GP engine and Hitec Focus radio.  I also joined a club and the AMA. This is actually the first plane that I was able to take-off and land solo without damage.

At this point I discovered SPADS (simple plastic airplane design). If not for SPADs I wouldn't be in this great hobby today. This plane is made of PVC and Coroplast. I knew nothing about CG and balance so it never flew well. BUT IT DID FLY.

This is also a SPAD. This time I did my homework and learned about CG and flight dynamics. This plane had an Enya .35 for power.  This plane flew great. It was able to withstand several rough landings without so much as a scratch. It was also very fast and sensitive. This caused me to learn to control the planes much better.

This one is also a SPAD!! This plane is made entirely of Coroplast. I wanted something that looked a little more like a plane.  It has an Enya .35 glo engine on the front.  This plane flew great and was very fast.

This is actually an electric E-gull plane that my little brother bought. It flys nice, but only has rudder and throttle. This makes it rather boring after about 5 minutes.

This was my first plane that I built using foam. The whole plane and wing is made of blue insulation foam from Lowes. The plane came out pretty nice, but the .10glow was underpowered.

This plane was purchased at a swap show. It has an electric speed 400 motor. With the huge wingspan and light weight it will float for days.

This zagi was bought at a swap show for an amazing price. I fly this plane a lot. It is speed 400 electric right now and it hauls. This plane flys inverted really well.  I use 8c 600AE packs.

My brother wanted to advance to something with aileron and elevator. This SPAD was a quick weekend plane to give him something to train on. It flies really well.  It has an ASP .40 on the nose.

This plane was an attempt to fly a larger electric plane. The plane is built like a T-52 from JKaerotech. The power is a magnetic mayhem and 8 2200mah sub-c's. It flys great and I can get about 7-8 minute flights on this setup. The plane is foam and coroplast so it survives most rough landings easily.

This plane was my attempt at a much larger gasoline (rather than glow) powered plane. The engine is a Ryobi 31cc weedwacker motor that has been converted by me. The plane is built using SPAD techniques. The wing is all 2mm coroplast with a 4mm bottom. The fuse is vynal 4"x4" fence post.

This was my first 1/2A sized plane. It has a Norvel .061 glo engine on the front. The plane was built out of foam to resemble a P-51 mustang. It flys great even with 2.5oz of weight on the front for balance. When I get that fixed it should be a nice flyer.

This was the answer to my aerobatic needs. I wanted something with enough power to go straight up and never miss a beat. This plane will do it. The engine is a Thunder Tiger .46pro. The plane is made of coroplast and PVC. The wing is fully semetric. The roll rate on this plane is scary.

CANCELLED!! This is another plane I have started, but just haven't had time to finish. The engine is an OS .25. The fuse is anlge aluminum with coroplast tail. The wing is also Coroplast. Maybe one of these days I'll stick some servos and a receiver on it and fly.

This is another attempt at a SPAD that looks more like a plane. I really like the way the P-51 mustangs look. The fuse is PVC with foam used for shape. The wing is all 2mm Coroplast. The engine is a Thuder Tiger .42gp. I'm looking forward to finishing this plane soon.

This is my newest P-51. I have built several foam planes based on the JKaerotech design and this time I actually bought a kit from them http://www.jkaerotech.com   It is super light and with an OS .25 it should really leap out of my hand.

This is my newest plane to date. I have not finished the two P-51's yet and already made this one. I should probably slow down a bit...NO WAY!! This is a funfly design called a Qhor. Eventually it will have a profile fuse to it and look more like a bal$a funfly. It has an OS.25 for power, but if it doesnt go straight up, I'll be swapping that for a TT.42.

This is a plane I just started working on. I converted a 46cc McColloch chainsaw into an RC engine and needed a big plane to fly it. This is a BIG plane!!!

This plane was my first 3d style electric.  This plane is called the 3DX and the plans were posted on the EZONE web forum.  Initially it had a brushed motor but was later switched to a Himaxx brushless.  This plane would do about everything you could want from a 3D plane.  It was a little overweight at a whopping 23ozs.  This plane was sold to a nice fellow online.

This  is my latest 3d electric plane.  This plane has a Himaxx 4100 brushless motor.  I have 2 3s1p 1200mah lipo packs.  This plane will hover right out of my hand.  The front nose is fiberglassed.  The plane weighs in at about 17ozs ready to fly.

This plane was purchased at a garage sale near my home.  The plane was heavily abused and had a lot of damage to the wing.  It was obviously crashed a few times.   The firewall was soaked with fuel.  I fixed the firewall and patched the wing with some fiberglass.  The whole plane is being covered in yellow and red rather than the tan and gold that was on it originally.  It has a .40 sized motor on it and uses Futaba servos and receiver.  It should be a sweet little plane for this season.

My radio is the Futaba 7CAF
